The 21st Annual Alberg 37 Fall Rendezvous was held at the Assenmacher home and dock on the Hampton Hall Branch of the Yeocomico River near Kinsale, VA on Saturday/Sunday, September 28-29, 2013.

MISCHIEF, Kip and Linda Newbould's 1970 MK-I Yawl, and HERON, Rob and Julie Lee’s 1981 MK-II Yawl, were the only Alberg 37s in attendance for the Rendezvous.   Our (Tom and Kaye Assenmacher’s) boat, SHEARWATER, is on the hard at Westland Marina in Titusville, FL awaiting our return in early November for launch are return to the Abacos for the winter.

Also arriving (drive-ins) were A-37 owners Henk and Wendy DeVries of Cobourg, Ontario (PAWBEE); and Wayne and Sherrill Bower of Bowie, MD (TEELOK);

Others attending the Rendezvous were friends/neighbors:

Becky and Jerry Knop of  Reisterstown, MD; Lou and Jean Wayne of Rochester, NY and former owners of the 1967 MK-I Sloop PIKA;  Marion Daiss of Callao, VA (owner of Krentz Marine Railway); Don and Judy Polifka of Kinsale, VA along with friend John Battaile; Richard and Carole Hackett  of Lusby, MD (Richard and Carole arrived in their Shannon 38 KILLISSA);  Matt and Eli Assenmacher (our son and grandson) of Silver Spring, MD; Charlie Corkum of the Cape Cod, MA area - Charlie owns a cottage on Man O’ War Cay in the Abacos, Bahamas, and we know him quite well from our 4 cruises to the Abacos.  This was Charlie’s first visit to our home on the Yeocomico River, on Virginia’s ‘Northern Neck’!  Friends Polly and Rod Mercker of Lottsburg, VA, and Kip and Linda’s (Newbould) friend Rhon Nelson, attended the festivities on Saturday.

The early Fall weather was GREAT! Those arriving on Friday enjoyed a pot luck dinner on Friday evening along with a lot of 'sea stories', renewed acquaintances and a good time was had by all!  Saturday dawned clear and cool which persisted the entire weekend, and a lot of time over the weekend was spent on the dock and outdoors!   Saturday's events included the usual 'crab pickin' where a bushel of steamed local Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs were consumed in the early afternoon.  Later on Saturday afternoon, a bushel of our locally home grown oysters (we -Tom and Kaye- are 'oyster gardeners') were roasted over an open fire-pit, followed by an outdoor hot dog and hamburger BBQ on the back deck.  Fortunately,  friend of all (and previous A-37 owner) Becky Knop - was able to attend this year's event, so we DID have Becky's  famous and ‘fabulous’ Crab Soup!

Sunday's weather was a repeat of Saturday's, and those folks who had driven longer distances  left by mid-day on Sunday.  Those who were still here enjoyed another pot luck dinner in the early afternoon.  A great time was had by all!!
