i thought about doing this and was advised against it by my sailmaker friend peter risser from san juan canvas as in his opinion the mast is not set up for this, it would require considerable reinforcing to do any good, since such a stay is usually used for a storm sdail, tyhus heavy loading on the deck, and it makes it more difficult to tack with your normal sails. i know several peiple with larger boatsd with such an arrangement that have to use their roller furling to tack. i have a very strong storm jib and a storm trisail that runs on a second track next to the main for really heavy weather. hopefully i will need neither.
